About the event

Join us for a special vernissage and mini-concert to celebrate the new mobile and experimental pipe organ LIMINARE (for "organum liminare," or "liminal organ"). Built by Montreal organbuilder Alexander Ross with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, LIMINARE reinvents and transforms the concept of traditional organ music with a fully dynamic instrument capable of variable wind pressure from zero to extreme over-pressure. LIMINARE liberates the pipe organ from the constraints of the traditional keyboard and equal-tempered scale, with unique mechanical innovations and a microtonal, spectral pitch concept centred on the justly tuned harmonic series.

The evening begins with a casual 5à7 wine reception with demonstrations and discussion around the new organ. This is followed by a special mini-concert at 7:30 PM showcasing LIMINARE alongside the Sacré-Cœur's 1928 Casavant pipe organ and invented instruments by André Pappathomas. Musicians include Adrian Foster, Alexander Ross, Léa Weilbrenner, Kimberley Lynch, André…
